Hop and Cider Orchard Manager
Job: Responsible for care and expansion of a 1/3 acre organic hop yard and a 1-acre organic apple orchard. Interface with brewers and cider makers at the farm. Looking for full-time employee but will consider part-time/seasonal candidates.
Location: Wappinger Falls New York (65 miles north of NYC) in the Hudson Valley. Farm is less than a mile from New Hamburg Metro-North Station
Obercreek Brewing Company and Obercreek Cider Company is seeking and individual to care and maintain the orchard and hop yard and to create an expansion plan in conjunction with management of the two entities.
Background: Obercreek Farm is an organic farm, producing mainly vegetables for both commercial and CSA markets. In 2013, Obercreek farm planted 1/3 acre of several hop varietals to determine whether organic production was viable in our region. In 2016, Obercreek Brewing Company was established and renovations occurred to create a brew house on the farm. In 2016 Obercreek Cider Company was established and a 4.5-acre field was prepared for an organic orchard of bitter sweet and bitter-sharp varietals. The first trees will be planted in spring of 2017.
Seeking individual with some experience at a commercial orchard. Some experience with orchard and hop yard care and cultivation desired. Knowledge of brewing and fermentation techniques desired. General farm experience, preferably with organic methods or Integrated Pest Management desired.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Housing: 1 bedroom apartment available on farm.
